Tempur-Pedic vs Sealy: Which Mattress Is Better in Florida?
Honest comparison between Tempur-Pedic and Sealy for Florida sleepers — heat, humidity, support, price. From a Fort Myers mattress dealer that carries both.
We sell both Tempur-Pedic and Sealy out of our Fort Myers showroom, so we don’t have a horse in this race — we just have customers who ask the question every week. Here’s the honest answer.
The 30-second version
- Tempur-Pedic if you sleep hot is not a problem you’ve solved (newer Tempur-Breeze line addresses this), you have back or pressure-point pain, and you can stretch to $1,800+ at our pricing.
- Sealy if you want a traditional innerspring or hybrid feel, share a bed and want zero motion transfer matters less, and you’d like to stay under $1,200.
- Both companies are owned by Tempur Sealy International. They share R&D, materials, and quality control. You’re not picking between two enemies — you’re picking between two product lines under one roof.
What Tempur-Pedic does best
The proprietary TEMPUR material is genuinely different from anything else on the market. Memory foam from any other brand (including Sealy’s foam options) gets close but doesn’t match it. What you get:
- Pressure relief — you sink in without bottoming out. Side sleepers and people with hip or shoulder pain notice this within 30 seconds.
- Motion isolation — your partner can roll over and you won’t feel it. This matters more than people realize.
- Long warranty — 10-year non-prorated, which means full replacement coverage, not partial.
What Tempur-Pedic used to do badly: sleep hot. They’ve fixed it with the Tempur-Breeze line (the LuxeBreeze especially), but the standard ProAdapt and Adapt lines still run warm. In Florida, we steer customers toward the Breeze line specifically. It’s not optional — it’s the difference between loving the bed and listing it on Facebook Marketplace in three months.
What Sealy does best
Sealy is the largest mattress brand in the United States. They’ve been making innerspring beds for over 130 years. What you get:
- Innerspring + hybrid options — if you grew up on a “real” mattress and memory foam feels weird, Sealy is home base.
- Posturepedic spinal alignment — their lumbar zone reinforcement is well-researched and actually works.
- Price point — $700-$1,400 for a quality queen at our pricing. Half what a comparable Tempur runs.
- Cooling by default — innerspring mattresses naturally breathe better than memory foam, which is a big deal in Lee County summers.
Sealy weak spots: not as much pressure relief, more motion transfer, slightly shorter useful lifespan (8-10 years vs Tempur’s 10-12).
Florida-specific buying advice
The two non-obvious things that matter most in Southwest Florida:
1. Heat retention. A mattress that runs hot in Ohio runs miserable in Naples. If you keep your AC at 76+, get either a hybrid (Sealy) or a Tempur-Breeze. Avoid all-foam non-cooling mattresses unless you sleep cold.
2. Humidity and mold. Florida humidity gets into bed bases over time. Make sure whatever you buy has a breathable cover and that you have proper foundation (a slat foundation or bunkie board, not a solid platform). We include foundation guidance with every appointment.

Which would we buy?
If we were buying for ourselves and money was no object: Tempur-Breeze LuxeBreeze. It’s the best mattress on the market, full stop.
If we were buying on a real-world budget: a Sealy Posturepedic Plus hybrid in medium-firm. Excellent value, sleeps cool, lasts a decade.
